Autumn Term Reopening

I would like to share with you our plans for reopening in full for all pupils as from the start of the 2020/21 academic year. COVID-19 measures will remain in place to reduce the risk of transmission, with the school keeping the children in their classes within year group sized ‘bubbles’.  Pupils will be encouraged to keep their distance from each other and staff as much as possible.  This is alongside protective measures such as regular cleaning and handwashing.  If there is a positive case of COVID-19 in school, the Public Health England local health protection team will advise on the appropriate action, which could include pupils and staff within a ‘bubble’ being asked to self-isolate for up to 14 days.  The school will offer remote education to pupils who are self-isolating.   Start of Term We have planned a staggered start to the new academic year to allow pupils in Year 3 and in our MLD Unit to have an enhanced transition at the start of the new school year.  This means that for most pupils, they will now return to school on Tuesday 1st September.  Please look at the table below carefully so that you know what date your child will return to school: Day/Date School Open Monday 24th August Training Day – school closed to all pupils Tuesday 25th August Training Day – school closed to all pupils Wednesday 26th August Year 3 pupils + MLD Unit (Year 3) Thursday 27th August Year 3 pupils + MLD Unit (Year 3/4) Friday 28th August Year 3 pupils + MLD Unit (Year 3/4/5/6) Monday 31st August Bank Holiday – school closed to all pupils Tuesday 1st September School open to all pupils   Measures for arriving at and leaving schools The school will be adjusting start and finish times to keep groups apart as they arrive and leave school: Year Group Start Time Finish Time Year 3 8:50am 3:10pm Year 4 8:40am 3:00pm Year 5 8:40am 3:00pm Year 6 8:50am 3:10pm MLD Unit 8:50am 3:10pm   Is attendance mandatory from the start of the new academic year? Yes – mandatory attendance will be reintroduced by the government from the start of the new academic year.  The school will resume attendance monitoring and families who do not send their child to school may be fined.   Will there be a Breakfast Club? Breakfast Club will reopen from 8am until 8:50am for Westfield Junior School pupils only.  The cost is £2.50 per child per day.  Parents of pupils with a sibling at Westfield Infant School will need to contact WIS to discuss their separate breakfast club provision.   Will there be after-school clubs? We will not be offering any after-school clubs immediately on re-opening.  We will look to reintroduce after-school clubs at a later date when it is feasible and safe to do so.   Is Kids’ Club open? Kids’ Club is not part of Westfield Junior School so please contact Kids’ Club on 01455 637516.   Will pupils need to wear school uniform? All pupils will be expected to wear full school uniform as from the start of the new academic year.   Will pupils be able to bring bags and equipment to school? Pupils will be allowed to bring their school bags to school but will not be allowed to bring pencil cases or any other non-essential personal belongings into school.   Will the school be offering hot school meals? Yes – our catering team will be offering hot school meals at a cost of £2.20 per child per day.  School meals must be paid for in advance using School Money.  Alternatively, pupils are welcome to bring in a packed lunch from home.   Will there be toast and drinks available for pupils to purchase at break-time? The current restrictions mean that we will not be able to offer toast and drinks at break-time for the time being.  Pupils will need to bring their own healthy break-time snack and a drink of water into school.   I want to reassure parents and families that we are doing everything we can to make sure our school is as safe as possible for children and staff.
