CHOIR SINGS TO YEAR 2
On Wednesday, our lovely choir sang a medley of Mary Poppins songs, firstly to years three, four and five, then in the afternoon Westfield Infant School pupils (year two) came over to our school to hear them sing and join in with ‘Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious’ (hope that’s how it is spelt!). Mrs Osborne, together with Mrs Lewis, organised this event – Mrs Osborne’s party piece is saying the song name backwards – very impressive! The children from the infant school were very well behaved and, we hope, enjoyed being entertained by our children. Thank you again to Mrs Osborne and Mrs Lewis for all their hard work with the choir.
YEAR 5 & 6 VALENTINE’S DISCO
Yesterday, the PTA held a Valentine’s Disco after school for our upper school pupils (years three and four had a Christmas Disco in December). We had over 100 children at this event and I would like to thank the PTA as well as years five and six staff, plus Mr Jones our IT technician, who supported this. It was a well organised event and Mrs Elwell, as always, was the brains behind it all – thank you especially to her.
4RJ CLASS ASSEMBLY
This week it was the turn of Mrs Richards-Jones’ class to perform their class assembly which is all about heroes and superheroes. I had seen some of the rehearsals beforehand, but the actual assembly was brilliant! It’s hard to believe that the children performing are only eight/nine years old. I love the theme of Superheroes and I think the children (and staff!) did a wonderful job. I am lucky that I have reserved seat for all school performances - one of the perks of my job!
Today we have Coffee Stop from 2:30 onwards. Last time we did this, ALL the cakes had been sold which was fantastic! We would not be able to so this without our catering staff plus all the other staff who ensure that this happens; both behind the scenes and front of house serving teas, coffees and cakes. Great team work...
I hope you have a restful half term break and we will see your children back in school on Monday 25th February ready to work hard for the rest of the term.

This has been a very busy week at Westfield Junior School. With half term coming up, we are trying to squeeze in as much learning as we can. I have been visiting classes and am impressed by the learning going on and the hard work shown in books by our pupils. I am also very pleased that visitors to our school are shown politeness and good manners. The children are a credit to you (and us)!
COLLECTING CHILDREN FOR APPOINTMENTS
The office staff have requested that, should you need to collect your child for an appointment during school hours, you are able to give us a bit of notice so that we can make sure that your child is in reception when you arrive. The site is rather big and sometimes the children are not in class but somewhere else on site and need to be located. Their coats/bags/etc then need to be collected from their classroom and then make their way to reception, so you see it may take some time and we have had parents/carers who have been annoyed as they have appointments booked.
YEARS 5 AND 6 VALENTINE’S DISCO
Next week, the PTA is organising a Valentine’s Disco on Thursday evening. This is for our older pupils in years 5 and 6. Start time is 3:15 and it finishes at 5pm and the children need to bring their outfits and change at the end of the school day. The cost is only £2:00 which includes a drink and a snack. We will be testing our new sound system and lights in the hall. Mrs Elwell has said that tickets need to be bought by Monday after school so make sure you are not late!
TALENT SHOW INFORMATION
This year, for Red Nose Day (which is Friday 15th March), Westfield Junior School will be holding a Talent Competition. We hold auditions in the week leading up to this fabulous event which supports the Comic Relief Charity. It costs 50p to take part and 20p to watch the show! First, second and third prizes are provided by me. This is always a brilliant event as many of our children are really talented and some pupils are already rehearsing their performances!
Today we had our Spring Term House Competition. This is where the Houses go head to head to try to win as many House Points as they can. We have had all sorts of contests: Times Tables, Spelling, Science Quiz, a Memory Game, a Mr Lambert game called Tangles and last time, we had both staff and pupils eating strange things in the Westfield Bush Tucker Trials (Mr Lambert made himself ill by overdoing things and drinking a vile concoction to prove he could do it)! Not a good thing... Today we went for something more sedate - Times Tables and Spelling.
