Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been lovely today seeing all our pupils back in school and welcoming our new year three children and other new pupils in other year groups. Everyone looked smart and shiny and ready to learn (although some of our year three pupils were absolutely exhausted by lunch time)! I bet you gave a little sigh of relief that the summer holidays are over...

Each year is a new start and for the first time we did not move whole classes around and mix them up except for a few children in year six. This is because the classes have worked well and we felt that it was a good idea to keep them together.

Just a polite reminder that if you park in the private car park behind the houses on Westfield Road opposite the school, you have a good chance of being clamped. We sent out a letter to all parents/carers at the end of last term for the borough council explaining this.

We thought that the roofers would have completed recovering the flat roofs in school by the start of term as they have been in the inner yard all summer! However we have been lucky to have the work done by the Local Authority, an old building like this is always needing work, and we are very grateful. They should be finished next week sometime.

This term, year four pupils are going swimming until Christmas. Year five will be going after Christmas to Easter and year three pupils will go for the summer term. We subsidise this activity as much as we can but have had to increase the cost from £2 to £2.50. The DfE guidelines say that all children should be able to swim 25 metres by the end of KS2, so it is important that they swim when given the opportunity whilst in junior school.

Information about upcoming events will be sent home and will go onto the website in the next week or so. An important date for your diary is Parents’ Evening which is the week beginning Monday 8th October - we usually have appointments on the Tuesday, Wednesday and late night until 7:30 on Thursday.

We are looking forward to meeting you all! Best wishes,
Margaret Greig
