Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you to our wonderful PTA who held a film night for our children. Mrs Cheryl Wright (who also made up all the’ munch bags’), Mrs Lewis, Mrs Elwell, Mrs Holt, Mrs Chambers, Mrs Cheney were on hand to supervise the children and it was a real success. The PTA made £202.90 which will help towards paying for a new much needed sound system for the hall. Look out for upcoming film nights in the near future.

This week, on Wednesday and Thursday, our upper school children visited the National Arboretum. All the children and staff I have spoken to were very impressed by what they saw and learned with many of them saying they would lie to visit again with their families. Once again, our Westfield pupils were praised by both the coach driver and the staff on site at the Arboretum. When I hear that, it makes me so proud to be the Head Teacher at this school.

Our Governors do a brilliant job in supporting the staff and pupils at our school. I thought it would be a good idea to give parents and carers an update now and again so that you can see what they are actually doing to support our school. As you know (or perhaps you don’t!), Governors are a group of people who support the school and are involved in making strategic decisions for our school. They attend throughout the year at formal/strategic meetings, but they also come into school to support events, lessons and trips. Last week and this week different Governors have: been on the Arboretum trip; helped on the Sponsored Walk; visited and worked in a maths group; supported in IH; attended the Finance Committee meeting. So, you can see they are a real part of our school!

Both the school football and the hockey teams have been in action this week with the football team playing Kibworth Primary School (we lost 3-1 with Mitchell Crowther scoring but we came back as it was 2-0 at half time!) and the hockey team coming a respectable 4th out of 10 schools in the tournament yesterday. Thank you to Mr Woodward again who organised these events for our children and the staff who attended – Mr Farrell, Mrs Patten and Miss Blyth – it’s cold watching from the side lines!!

It was the turn of 5R to perform to their families and to the school today and they did this well – Miss Randall is a new teacher at Westfield – it is always nerve wracking when it is your assembly, but it was brilliant! Well done all. Don’t forget to come to the gym after school and buy some yummy cakes for the weekend.

Best wishes,

Mrs M Greig
