Headteachers Blog 07/12/2018
This week has been very busy at Westfield Junior School. As well as our pupils working hard and completing end of term tests this week, they have had Christmas Dinner (there were around 350 pupils being fed yesterday) and the lower school pupils had a Christmas Disco on Wednesday which was organised by the PTA.
We have brilliant staff in our kitchen who work hard to feed our pupils every day – we still only charge £2 for meals and the catering staff also produce all the cakes and biscuits for the Coffee Stop on alternate Fridays. This week we had our annual visit from Environmental Health and received five stars for the cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen. This is the highest category, so we are well chuffed – thank you so much to Mrs Catterell, Mrs Read, Mrs Capener and Mrs Burrows who work so hard doing the job but also Mrs Holt who manages the kitchen and school dinners very successfully.
YEAR 3 AND 4 DISCO
On Wednesday, over 100 children descended on the hall for a Christmas disco which was fantastic! Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and there were lots of sparkly clothes and great dancing. Some of our year six girls agreed to dance on the stage to teach some moves so thank you to them. Also, thanks go to Mrs Wright, Mrs Elwell, Mrs Halliday, Mrs Cheney and Mr Jones who made this possible.
A special thank you goes to Mrs Lewis who ran the whole event from the stage and was fabulous!! It was great to see all our year 3 and 4 teachers who came to support the event and were very helpful in recognising parents which really speeded up the collection of children!
CHOIR IN THE COMMUNITY
Our lovely choir were out and about today at Armada Court singing to the residents and will be singing tomorrow at the Hinckley Library. We are also booked to sing at the Co-op on Monday 17th December. It is always so uplifting to hear our children singing Mrs Osborne’s creative take on Christmas songs in Santa hats. It is a sure sign that Christmas is near!
Next week we have the year five Nativity – you should have had tickets already – and it is Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 14th December.
Best wishes, Mrs M Greig
