School Uniform
"Pupils wear their uniform with pride."
Ofsted, 11 and 12 March 2025
It is important that our pupils feel a sense of belonging and community through a smart and practical uniform. We believe a uniform allows all pupils, regardless of background, to feel equal to their peers and confident in their appearance. We also believe it is important for activities to be facilitated by specialised and appropriate clothing such as sports-specific attire.
All pupils are expected to adhere to the uniform rules, and we expect all parents who choose to send their children to Westfield Junior School to do likewise.

Jewellery
Permitted jewellery that may be worn is:
- One pair of small stud earrings (no hoops or long earrings) – no other piercings are permitted.
- A sensible wristwatch – smart watches must not be worn to school.
- Religious jewellery.
Jewellery is the responsibility of the pupil and not the school. Lost or damaged items will not be refunded. All jewellery must be removed for P.E. lessons (including swimming), sports clubs and sporting events.
If any pupil has their ears pierced this must be done at the beginning of the summer holidays to allow healing time.
Hairstyles
The school reserves the right to make a judgement on where pupils’ hairstyles or hair colours are inappropriate for the school environment; however, we will ensure that any such judgements do not discriminate against any pupil by virtue of their protected characteristics. Each individual pupil’s scenario will be considered where any judgements on appropriateness are to be made, and parents will always have the freedom to complain via the school’s Complaints Procedures Policy.
Pupils with long hair must ensure that this does not impede their vision, cover their face or provide a health and safety risk. Long hair must be tied up during practical lessons, e.g. during P.E.
The following hairstyles are not considered appropriate for school:
- Unnatural colours.
- Extreme differences between lengths.
- Hair / eyebrow tram marks.
- Headwear with bold patterns or colours.
- Excessive hair accessories.
Makeup
The school rules on makeup are as follows:
- No pupil is allowed to wear make-up.
- False nails, nail extensions, nail varnish and false eyelashes are not permitted.
- Temporary tattoos are not permitted
If make-up or nail varnish is used the pupil will be asked to remove them or, if appropriate, parents will be contacted to remove it.
There may be exceptions to the above in extreme circumstances, at the Headteacher’s discretion, e.g. a pupil may be permitted to use makeup to cover heavy scarring / skin damage.
